Use “house building” as the main keyword
Let’s say you have a website about “build your own house”, so we’ll use “build a house” as an example of a main keyword.
THE NEXT STEP is to create a title for your website and insert it into your website’s “title tag”. The “Title Tag” must first appear in the “Header” of your website, which is important because many search engines use the content of the “Title Tag” as the post title. You also look for keywords in the title and the main keyword should be the first few words of the title.
In general, your title should be no longer than 40 characters and, again, start with your main keyword. Avoid using “final words” in your title. Stop words are transition words like – and, but, or, for, with, etc.
Here is a possible title with our main keyword, for example “Build a House” – Build a House – House Building Plans Please note that our main keyword is the first, the title contains less than 40 characters (39), there are no trailing words and we have managed to include three additional keywords: house building, building plans and house building plans. Smart, right?
The next step is to create a “keyword meta tag”. This is where you enter all the keywords you want to use on your website, starting with your “main keyword”. A good rule of thumb is to use around 20 keywords, and your main keyword should be in about half of them.
Using our example keyword “build a house”, our keywords could be: build a house, build a house, house building plans, house building costs, building plans, etc.
Please note that I did not use our main keyword “house building” twice in a row. For example: house construction, home construction projects, etc. Search engines might consider it as spam, which can hurt your ranking. The next step is to create a “meta description tag”. This is where you describe your website and again start with your main keyword.
Limit your description to about 150 characters, use as few “following words” as possible, and include as many secondary keywords as possible.
Make your description interesting, as search engines often use the content of your “meta description tag” as the description of your listing page.
